Exploring the Moy,the foundation of ballina

Water heritage day-August 24th

Sunday, August 24th starting at 2:00 PM

Meeting Point is The Downhill (beside Twin Trees Hotel)

Join us for a unique afternoon that brings together the natural beauty and rich heritage of Ballina. Begin with a guided walking tour along the River Moy led by Community Water Officer Éanna Hyland, who will share insights into the river’s diverse ecosystems and its importance to local wildlife.

As you stroll the banks of this iconic waterway, discover how the Moy has shaped the landscape and supported communities throughout the centuries.

The experience continues at the nearby Mary Robinson Centre, where you’ll enjoy light refreshments followed by an engaging talk from local historian Eddie Melvin.

Learn about the River Moy’s pivotal role in the development of Ballina, from its early settlement to its influence on trade, culture, and daily life.

This free community event promises a meaningful look at both the environmental and historical significance of one of Mayo’s most treasured rivers.
