Prof. Navjot Bhullar
Psychological Scientist and Mental Health Researcher in the Health Research Institute at University of Canberra, Australia |
Nav is a psychological scientist and mental health researcher in the Health Research Institute at University of Canberra, Australia. She leads innovative multidisciplinary research programs that delve into the psychosocial and environmental determinants of mental health and suicidality, with a particular focus on rural and regional Australia. Her applied research focuses on community & health psychology to understand psychological and emotional impacts of climate change vulnerabilities, and how these are exacerbated by intersectionalities and affect mental health and wellbeing outcomes. She is particularly interested in identifying risk and resilience profiles to understand specific barriers to, and facilitators of accessing mental health care supports. The practical utility of this work helps inform the development of targeted health messaging that promotes good mental health and prevents or attenuates mental ill-health. Outside work, Nav is an avid bushwalker and hiker; and this connection with nature helps her remain curious about this world as well as to have a deep-rooted resilience in the face of challenges.
